Macronized. Every long vowel in the Latin is marked.
Orbis Sēnsuālium Pictus is a picture book of the whole world, first printed at Nuremberg in 1658 by John Amos Comenius. It is one of the first picture books ever made for teaching children Latin. Its 150 lessons start with God and the heavens and cover everything from birds and beasts to the human body. Each scene is shown in a woodcut whose numbered parts are named in short Latin sentences.
This edition keeps the woodcuts of the first printing and sets Comenius’s Latin, now with the long vowels marked, beside Charles Hoole’s English translation of 1659. It is well suited to beginners who want to learn vocabulary visually.
