Julia
A Latin Reading Book

Macronized. Every long vowel in the Latin is marked.
Julia is Maud Reed’s story book for the first weeks of Latin. It begins with a little girl on the seashore of Britain and a boat full of pirates, and goes on to Ceres and Proserpina, Horatius at the bridge, Bacchus and the pirates, Regulus, Hector and Andromache, and the wooden horse.
The Latin is simple at the start and grows by small steps, with a few lines of Virgil, Horace and Catullus for the teacher to read aloud. In this edition every long vowel is marked, the vocabulary is set again from Reed’s lists, and twenty illustrations, eight from the 1924 edition and twelve paintings and prints of earlier centuries, go with the stories.
